The project Virtual Self (Stafræna sjálfið) is an interactive personality test. The test serves as a tool to discover your online persona, resembling a game within the virtual domain. The test features virtual characters based on six distinct brand archetypes: Caregiver, Rebel, Jester, Creator, Innocent, and Sage. Each archetype is characterized by three defining traits, these traits were made into pixelated symbols that reflect the digital context of the project. The characters all share the same silhouette, symbolizing the idea that while individuals may identify with multiple archetypes, they often present a singular, curated persona online. The purpose of this project was to invite users to reflect on their simplified virtual self. The design choices highlight the contrast between the complexity of real-life identity and the simplified nature of online personas, ultimately challenging the authenticity of digital self-representation.
